Royal Wedding weekend at Haven, Burnham-on-Sea

A friend & I escaped with our children (5 between us) to Haven over the Royal Weekend in April 2011. The caravan was very basic but generally clean, although reeked of cigarette smoke from the previous occupiers, & staff seemed unable to deal with this. Bedrooms were very tiny & it was impossible for everyone to open their doors at the same time, as then the handles all lock together & you're trapped.
The weather was just about ok for us to be outside most of the time, which was good as we really didn't feel there was enough to do if the weather had been bad. The outdoor play area with free trampolines & bouncy slide was excellent & the kids were happy there for ages. Be warned though, the slide & trampolines open & close without any warning - no timetables anywhere, so mainly luck if you happen to be out there when they open.
The pool was clean, if small but the water activities for our 7 & 8 year olds were fantastic, definitely worth buying activity passes in advance for. Some are quite late though - 7-7.30pm, so be prepared to spend a lot of your time in the changing rooms & hoping the towels will dry between sessions!
Meals in the pub on site were very good with lots of choices and good service. The evening entertainment was good and quite varied - usualy holiday campstuff.
A special mention has to be made to the staff at the swimming pool - they were excellent with the children, even our boisterous boys, and the children had the best time there.

fine holiday fun!

We visited this holiday park in April which was before the outdoor pools were ready for use, so it was great that there was an indoor pool with a flume; the main reason we chose the resort. We stayed in a caravan which was spotless and must have been fairly new - some maintenance was needed as we arrived, and the chap saw to it straight away.
We found the lakeside position very quiet and my son was able to play football outside the caravan without being on a road or bothering the neighbouring caravans too much. To get to the facilities, we walked and my son scooted down to the shop and main entertainment building, which included an arcade, a pub/restaurant with Annabel Karmel meals available, and upstairs is the bar and entertainment area for the evenings. Every night there is something for kids - the park has its own charachters which come to life - you can have your photo taken with them, they sing and dance and one night they did a fairytale show, which had the kids spellbound. For teens they organise swapping of details to help them make friends during their holiday.
The kids activities were fun - all included in the stay. Fun, games, songs and parachute games for an hour or so.
There is a play area, and an inflatable slide, games courts etc.
Plus, a short walk through the park and along the seafront takes you to Burnham itself, which has a large sweeping beach/arcades/beachfront cafe selling fish and chips.

The park was very clean, staff were very friendly, caravan was nice, overall everything was better than expected. The evening entertainment at Burnham on Sea was a bit cheesy, but I think most clients like this.

All in all a very pleasant stay but rather chilly. Son-in-law already pining to return to the lakes for fishing on the site!
