Big Cats & Dunes Family Holiday overview

A spectacular 15 day wildlife adventure, including a trip to some of the highest sand dunes in the world. Sand boarding, a trip to Cape Cross to see the seals, followed by a stop at Etosha National ... Park to see the wildlife. The tour ends at a Cheetah & Leopard sanctuary. Day 1 – Overnight flights from London to Windhoek, Namibia. Day 2 – The adventure starts here! Once in Windhoek you will be taken by safari drive to your campsite in the Namib Desert, as you travel you will see an untouched land with many changing colours. Day 3 – Rise early to experience desert morning - breath taking! Followed by a guided tour of the 'walking dunes' (sculpted by the wind), climb the highest dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. The intensity of the heat during the day means returning to the relative coolness of the impressive Sesriem Gorge. Day 4 – Travel through the Namib landscape where you may see arid mammals or even glimpse flamingos and pelicans, finally, reaching the old German town of Swakopmund, Namibia's second largest city. Day 5 – Today is a free today to select an excursion from sand surfing on the roaring dunes to dolphin spotting or take a flight over the Skeleton Coast - this treacherous, rocky coastline where many vessels have met their end. Day 6 – On route to your next camp you’ll follow the Skeleton Coast to Cape Cross Seal Reserve, keep a lookout for elephants and springbok and Namibia’s highest mountain the Brandberg . Day 7 –Travelling north you will visit an ancient Bushman site at Twyfelfontein and pitch your tent at Kamanjab where you can visit the semi-nomadic people of the Himba tribe. Day 8 – Etosha National Park enjoy the wildlife and sunsets. Day 9 – A full day ahead at Etosha National Park, Okaukuejo, searching for birds, animals and a variety of endangered species. Day 10 – Etosha National Park, Namutoni, a game drive, stopping for lunch at Halali set in a unique area of rocky limestone outcrop. Rest or have refreshing swim and then drive to see the ramparts of Namutoni’s old German fort, which was originally built to control and subdue the Ovambo people. Day 11 – Waterberg Plateau spend the day exploring this national park as it offers a good contrast to the other parks you have visited. Day 12 – Spend a morning enjoying Waterburg before moving onto the Africat Foundation– where you will see mainly Cheetahs and Leopards and learn their struggle for survival. Day 13 – After leaving the camp at the Africat Foundation you make you way back to Windhoek stopping off in Okahanja to see the fantastic wood-carving market. Day 14 – The day is free to make the most of Windhoek before flying overnight to London. Day 15 – Arrive home.
