Serengeti Safari Family Holiday overview
Discover the wildlife on the East African plains, including tree-climbing lions and one of the world’s largest populations of elephants. Visit three of Africa’s finest National Parks including ...
Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara, staying in family-friendly lodges on the way. Day 1 – Overnight flight to Arusha, Tanzania. Day 2 – This morning you will arrive in Arusha which lies at the base of Mt. Meru, not far from the border with Kenya. It is well known as an African congress centre. The city is also an excellent base for visiting many of the National Parks and lakes. Day 3 – On route to Lake Manyara you will cross the impressive Great Rift Valley passing through the lands of the Masai. Once at the Manyara Lake there are a variety of mammals and birds, the most plentiful being elephants, buffalos and giraffes. It is also rewarding to see the numerous and entertaining baboon colonies. Day 4 – On route to the famous Serengeti National Park you stop at Olduvai archaeological site. Serengeti is the best known game park of Tanzania and probably also in the world. In the park you find almost all the animals you want to have in your digital camera in a perfect surrounding, there are literally millions of hoofed animals. They're constantly on the move in search of grassland and are watched and preyed upon by a varied parade of predators. Day 5 – Serengeti National Park. Before breakfast you will go on a game drive to make the most of the beasts’ early start. After your own breakfast the day will be spent searching for game, in the evening you head towards another part of the park to a comfortable tented lodge. Day 6 – Serengeti National Park. Another game drive today in the Ikola Wildlife area close to the National Park, you may decide to take an optional early morning walk safaris but only if you are accompanied by an armed guide. Day 7 - The Ngorongoro crater is one of the finest places in Tanzania for watching game. It's a must see and it should be on the top of your priority list. In fact, it's not really a crater but a collapsed volcano. The bottom is flat, almost treeless and filled with some small creeks and lakes. The crater is loaded with game and many many birds. You’ll sleepover on the rim of crater. Day 8 – You will spend another day at the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, hopefully catching sight of the endangered black rhino. Day 9 – Your trip ends here; you’ll be driven to Arusha to catch your return flight to London. Day 10 – Arrive London. Day 10 – 16 Optional Zanzibar island Extension. Day 1-8 – As per itinerary above. Day 9 – Fly from Arusha to Zanzibar. Day 10 – You have a free day in Stone Town, with its labyrinthine alleyways and fascinating architecture. Just beyond here, and within easy reach, is an unsurpassed collection of beaches where the sand is powdery white and the sea offers various hues of the most incredible blues. Day 11 - 14 You have the next 4 days to do as you wish on the island from, sunbathing to fishing to snorkelling as well as visiting the many cultural and historical sites of this gem of an island. Enjoy! Day 15 – Trip ends you will be transferred to Zanzibar airport for your return flight to London. Day 16 – Arrive London.
