The Costa Brava is the first stretch of Mediterranean coast you reach in Spain, which is one of the reasons it first became so popular for a family holiday. The Costa Brava is now studded with resorts like Lloret de Mar, Cadaques and Roses, spread out along its five long main beaches stretching down almost to Barcelona. The region is really beautiful with sandy beaches, small hidden coves, whitewashed fishing villages and even the odd mountain to climb. As the Costa Brava has been a main tourist destination for over half a century there are naturally lots of Water Worlds, Activity Centres and Nature Parks for a family day out away the beach, as well as the myriad of restaurants, shops to be found close to wherever you are staying. If you are looking for a reasonably priced family holiday with plenty to keep you and the children happy, then the Costa Brava is a good choice. Check out our great selection of Child Friendly holidays on the Costa Brava below or read on for some tips on attractions and days out.
Top Tips for that extra special family holiday on the Costa Brava
- If the gently lapping waves on the beach become a bit tame take the kids to Water World, which has Europe’s longest water slide and enough fast water to keep them wet and happy all day! If your resort is close to Lloret del Mar there is even a free shuttle bus. If you are closer to Roses, then Aquopolis in La Pineda de Salou is another water park swarming with attractions of the wet kind.
- If you want to combine the attractions of a Water Park with animal exhibitions, such as dolphin or sea lion shows then Marineland is the place. If you just want to see animals then there is a full range from elephants to eels at Parc de la Ciutadella. The zoo also has tours and special workshops for the children.
- Salvador Dali was the most famous surrealistic artist in the world and the most extensive exhibition of his work, actually designed by the artist himself, is shown in all its glory at the Gala-Salvador Dalí foundation in Figueres, close to Barcelona. Try not to miss out on showing your children the incredible works of this artist. By the way, Picasso also lived a long time in this area and there is a museum of this work too in Barcelona.
- You may be staying in a crowded resort but there are still many beautiful hillsides, wild cliffs, coves and villages in the area to explore. Pack a picnic and head off into those hills to explore.
- If you are missing big city life, arrange a day in Barcelona for a walk down the Ramblas and a visit to Heron City. This enormous entertainment centre in the Port Vell district is one the whole family will really enjoy especially its mind blowing Imax screened cinema.
