Costa del Sol means the Sunshine Coast and it has become one of Spain's most popular family holiday destinations. Costa Del Sol is in the southern most part of Mediterranean Spain and if you take a cable car up Calamorro Mountain you can see Africa! So not surprisingly the sun shines most of the year round, and with lots of clean sandy beaches and an extensive tourism industry there is little chance of boredom here. There are Wild Life centres, Aqua Parks, Theme Parks and the odd Moorish Castle or Museum to visit when you feel like a change from the beach or pool. There is also an enormous choice of eateries from traditional Tapas bars to real English Fish and Chip shops. Whatever your children’s eating habits there will be no problem on the Costa Del Sol. Accommodation to suit both your taste and budget is also easy to find. We offer everything from self-catering apartments, Camping Parks or private villas with pools, to the whole starred range of hotels. Check out our great selection of Child Friendly holidays on the Costa del Sol below or read on for some tips on attractions and days out.
Top Tips for that extra special family holiday on the Costa del Sol:
- If the kids like animals, they are here in abundance although not many in the wild! There is the Zoo in Feungirola and the Selwo Adventure Park with a real safari feel to it. For water based animals try the Crocodile Park in Torremolinos, the Selwo Marina, the Sea Life Centre or Dolphin World.
- Rides, rides and more rides. From scary fast falling types or scary wet falling kinds to ones on bikes, horses or canoes, The Costa Del Sol must have Europe’s most concentrated selection of Activity Parks and Water Worlds. There is bound to be one near to your resort. Some of the bigger ones are Tivoli World at Arroyo de la Miel, Parque Natura Aventura, situated close to Marbella, Parque Acuatico in Mijas, Aquapark in Torremolinos and Bahia Park Acuatico in Algeciras. They all have lots of places to eat and some also run excellent shows both during the day and in the evenings.
- For those who enjoy horse riding there is a trail ride the children can take through the hills starting from El Ranchito Equestrian Centre near Torremolinos. They also arrange a popular Rhythm of the Horse show every week.
- For a quieter day out, visit the beaches, parks, playgrounds and local towns, or take a walk along the promenade and enjoy the relaxed seaside atmosphere that costs you absolutely nothing! For example Marina Banus is a small shopping centre with a great indoor park with things to do for both younger and older children.
- For a noisier day that will also cost you very little, check with the local tourist office to see if there are any local fiestas taking place in the area during your stay. With, over 3,000 fiestas celebrated every year in Spain, chances are you will be lucky and it is always fun with lots of music and dancing, and eating and local sweets and cakes for the kids to buy.
- Finally if it all gets a bit too much and you just want to escape from everybody else in Europe, take a visit to the Botanic Park at Senda el Retiro. Bask in tranquillity, surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers with not a skateboard in sight.
