Come to Cuba and step back in time for a great family holiday with a difference. The resort hotels are all you would expect from a holiday in the Caribbean. Modern comfortable rooms, large swimming pools, close to warm sandy beaches with great water sport facilities and usually a tennis court or two. Take a trip into the nearest town, or better still spend a day in downtown Havana, and it really is like stepping back into the Sixties. Ancient American cars cruise the streets, the shop fronts are definitely pre-Millennium and the people all smile at you! The island is large by Caribbean standards and has taken to tourism in a big way, so you have plenty of resorts to choose from. What you must do is to tear yourself away from your pampered life on the beach and take the kids on a trip to one of the cities. They will love it. One other thing you will like about a holiday in Cuba, it is a lot cheaper than most holidays in the Caribbean. Top Tips for that extra special family holiday in Cuba
- Try not to leave Cuba without visiting one of the cities such as Holquin, Santiago, Trinidad and especially the capital, Havana. All have ancient piazzas, old Spanish mansions and narrow cobble-stoned streets with South American music playing in the background. If in Havana, take a walk along the sea wall, the Malecon, before dinner. This is what many Havana families do in the evening. So join them and soak up the atmosphere.
- Try to look under the water, as the marine life around the island is amazing. There are just so many ways to do this. For snorkeling the Playa Coral near Varadero is something special or combine your snorkeling with a special boat trip to the deserted Island of Cayo Saetia. For any scuba divers in the family the coral reef stretching for miles from Bibijagua Beach on The Isle of Youth is regarded as one of the best on Earth!
- Children just love dolphins, and swimming with them is something special they will always remember. The Dolphinarium in the Bahia de Naranjo is a wonderful place for this activity.
- Some teenagers inexplicably enjoy fast driving. They will just love letting off let steam by taking a speedboat down the Sama River.
- Cuba is famous for its cigars and a visit to one of the factories is really interesting to see how they are made, as long as the kids don’t try one! This can be part of a city tour, the one in Holquin City for example starts off with a trip on a steam train.
