Elephant Paradise Family Holiday overview

An incredible 16 day Sri Lankan adventure that you and the family will love! Talk to the local fisherman and see how they use their traditional catamaran, trek through jungles, canoe down the ... Kelani River and head off on a jeep safari before visiting an elephant orphanage. Day 1 Fly direct from London to Colombo, Sri Lanka arriving the following day. Day 2 – Arrive at Negombo, if you love seafood and being next to the sea you are staying in the right place, you will have a fabulous choice of seafood at this tropical beach location. Day 3 – Dolphin Watching and Habarana – An early start is required to make to the most of your Dolphin watching excursion, a Dolphin specialist will be at hand for you to learn more about these friendly creatures. Later that day you will be taken inland to Habarana where you have the day free to explore. Day 4 - Sigiriya Rock. The morning will be spent walking to the top of Lion Rock, the terrain makes you think a walk impossible but you will be surprised and impressed. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to go elephant riding, which the kids will love. Day 5 – Village Life and Polonnaruwa. An early start is required to get to one of Sri Lanka’s greatest man-made lakes where you will meet the local people and understand a little more about their way of life and enjoy a catamaran ride to see more of the wildlife. You will then make your way to Polonnaruwa which was once the capital of Sri Lanka and discover its fascinating history. Day 6 - Dambulla and Kandy. A drive to Kandy Sri Lanka’s second city, via Dambulla the intriguing and ornate refuge of a former King. In the evening you will have a tour of the famous Temple of the Tooth. Day 7/8 – Kandy lies in the midst of hills of the Kandy Valley which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is one of the most scenic cities in Sri Lanka and a wonderful place for the next 2 days to go sightseeing, visit the botanical gardens or even rafting. Day 9 - Kelani Kitulgala. A drive through the tea plantations to the Kelani Kitulgala, here you will spend the rest of the day enjoying a variety of different water sports on this beautiful part of the river or take an intoxicating jungle walk. Day 10 - A late morning departure to Bandarawela takes you via Nuwara Eliya plantation where you will discover how to make a real ‘brew’ also on route you can make a stop at some refreshing waterfalls before you reach your overnight stay. Day 11 - Today you will be making your way towards your comfortable campsite at Belihul Oya a nature lover’s paradise. Day 12 – Arrive at Uda Walawe National Park to be taken on an incredible jeep safari which includes an array of wildlife and see firsthand how they look after and protect the elephant population. You will then take a coastal drive to your hotel at a relaxing fishing village. Day 13/14 - Tangalle is just the perfect place for you to completely relax and enjoy a couple of days sunning yourself and floating in the soothingly warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Day 15 - You will be making your way back to Negombo and on route you will be visiting an Old Dutch fort and a turtle hatchery. Day 16 - Trip ends and return flight home.
