Lanzarote is possibly the most popular of the Canary Islands for a family holiday and Childfriendly can help you find the ideal holiday for you. Not only does Lanzarote have the same year-round sunny climate as the other islands, but it also has natural sheltered white sandy beaches and much less high rise developments. All three main resort areas, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca are especially child friendly with all the seaside facilities you could wish for, and some great Activity parks nearby. Wherever you choose to stay, a trip to the interior of the island is a must. UNESCO has declared Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape and almost unique ecosystem, a Biosphere Reserve. Enjoy warm days lazing by the pool or on the beach, unusual and unique scenery and an outing to a modern Adventure, Animal or Aqua Park. Top Tips for that extra special family holiday in Lanzarote
- Take a free bus to The Rancho Texas Park for a really fun day out for the kids. There are a whole host of attractions on offer from canoe rides, animal shows and a gold mine, to some great Wild West entertainment including evening barbecues that the kids will love.
- Take a tour ride to the Timanfaya Volcano Park and have the most memorable family experience. The volcanic scenery is unique. In fact films like Planet of the Apes and Star Wars have scenes, which were filmed here. It really is like no place on Earth, so don’t miss it.
- It is far more interesting under the sea than on it, especially in the waters around the Canaries. There are many facilities for scuba diving and of course snorkeling. It’s a wonderful experience for children to see marine creatures in their natural environment. There are also boat tours above the water to see dolphins and maybe even a whale.
- Nearly all families love markets and the Teguise Market, held every Sunday morning is not to be missed. The many stalls spread out through the narrow streets of this old town and it’s the perfect place to pick up a souvenir. Plan on having either breakfast or lunch here as there are many tasty tapas and other foody delights on offer. There is usually a local band playing in the piazza to add to the atmosphere
- Lanzarote has a number of fun animal parks and Guinate Tropical Park is one of the most popular. This large park has lovely gardens, lagoons, waterfalls and plenty of exotic animals from snakes to parrots.
- If the kids want a change from swimming at the beach or the apartment pool then take them to Costa Teguise Aqua Water Park. There are loads of fun rides here including an 8 tracker so all the family can hit the water together! There is also a little lake, a leisure park and a game castle.
