Mauritius is becoming the most popular family holiday island in the Indian Ocean, and no wonder. This former sugar-cane island has so much going for it. Its climate is tropical, but many of its fine white-sanded beaches are blessed with cooling breezes from both the sea and from the steeply wooded slopes of the beautiful interior. A trip to these mountains with their plunging waterfalls and dense tropical vegetation is highly recommended when you want a change from your luxury Beach Resort. People here are especially childfriendly and always seem to be smiling. They are an exotic mix of Creoles, descended from the original French settlers; Indians, brought in to cut the sugar cane; Africans, because it is close to Africa and of course Chinese. This cultural diversity has many advantages for visitors. With so many different races and religions there is always a festival of one sort or another going on, which is always fun to watch. The wonderful variety of the foods is also a big attraction on a Mauritius holiday. But the main reason we can recommend Mauritius for a family holiday is the place itself.  The beaches are white-sanded, uncrowded, washed by clean warm seas and backed by beautiful mountains. There are islets and reefs to explore by boat or snorkel. The little towns are colourful, fun to visit and snacks from local food stalls and drinks are incredibly cheap.
