Munich is a city, which gives you a ‘two for the price of one’ family holiday. Not only is Munich itself full of enough great attractions to keep you and the children happy for a week or more, it is also a perfect base from which to explore Germany’s most popular province, Bavaria. Munich’s historic heart is centred around the Marienplatz and the nearby onion domed Gothic church of Our Lady The many pavement cafés in the area give a holiday buzz at any time of the year. Just around the corner from the Marienplatz is the world famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall where Oompah bands play every day and where you will really get a feeling for the Bavarian zest for living. Whatever the weather there is always something to do in Munich with the children. On a sunny day take them to The English Garden with its many play areas, cafes and places to walk or stretch out along a scenic branch of the River Isar. Or take a short Ubahn ride to the Nymphenburg Palace and explore the many paths, woods and gardens. For a whole day out try a trip to the beaches and boats of one of the nearby lakes, like the popular Starnberger See. Even on a rainy day there is just so much for children to enjoy. There is the Deutsches Museum, Germany’s most childfriendly Science Museum. BMW does tours in English at their state of the art car factory. Munich is also home to some of Germany’s best orchestras and opera companies and there is always a great concert to go to. It is also the home of one of its best football teams and a tour of the iconic World Cup stadium will thrill any football fans in the family. All this and more, and of course the fantastic attractions of Bavaria as well.
