The Seychelles is the ideal dream holiday destination for most families. Each one of its more than 100 islands and cays in the Indian Ocean is a picture postcard of the classic desert island with swaying palms, white coral sanded beaches and warm, transparent aquamarine seas. In fact the sand on many of its world famous beaches is so white and fine that it is literally like walking through flour except it doesn’t get sticky! You will land on Mahe, the main island of the Seychelles. The Airport’s runway is built along the oceanfront and will give you your first very memorable experience of a holiday here. The island capital is Victoria, which is rather cute and worth a stroll around its shops at some stage during your visit. All the resorts are located away on the beaches, with the most popular on this main island. Whichever you choose you will not be disappointed. All have very high standards of accommodation, are beach-fronted and have first class restaurants and bars. It will be easy to arrange fun activities for the children such as windsurfing, water skiing and especially snorkelling. A few of the resorts have children’s clubs but all offer babysitting or child minding.
If your island paradise begins to get a bit too relaxing, it will be time for a tour of Mahe. There are coach or minibus tours on offer but hiring an open mini-moke is an option the kids will love. Just take off on the little tropical-forested roads to find your own beach in another part of the island. But the sea is the main attraction here. There are Marine Parks to explore by glass-bottomed boat, incredible snorkelling or just a bit of island hopping by boat. You can also check out the attractions of the outermost islands: Bird Island, Denis Island, Desroches Island, Fregate Island, and Praslin Island. Taking a short plane ride is the best option for reaching these although it is obviously expensive. There’s certainly plenty to do and see even if you just stay close to your own little bit of paradise. So check out our Childfriendly selection of great family holidays to the Seychelles and just think, your children will be able to pick seashells in the Seychelles on the seashore!
