I loved my stay here! I visited with my mum and son who's nearly 3 and as soon as we entered to be greeted by the very friendly Owner we knew we would have no problems. The décor is a mixture of vintage and British chic which in most places would make me nervous being around with a small child. But the owner reassured us straightaway, 'We all have kids, this is a family friendly run establishment and if he makes noise he makes noise, don't worry about it because we won't!' I always know if someone is genuine or not I they can manage to make friends with my son as he's a bit reserved at times but he was best friends with her almost straightaway as she made an effort to chat with him whilst checking us in. There are several little seating alcoves around reception and there's a book shelf with not just adult books but children's books too. There are toilets in reception too as the bar and restaurant is just the other side of the reception. Our room was at the top of the hotel which put my mind at ease a little that he wasn't likely to disturb our neighbours too much. My only negative is that there wasn't a lift up which doesn't matter for us but if you were likely to struggle with the stairs I'd request a ground floor room. The room was beautifully decorated, we had a single bed and a double bed with plenty of room still to move around. We had a TV, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, en suite and plenty of storage. The beds were lovely and comfy (unless you were sharing with my son!!) and the shower was decent, not like the cold trickley things you sometimes get at places like this. We had our evening meal here which was so yummy!!! They couldn't do enough for us again, making a special effort to chat to my son and bring some bread out for us whilst we waited. I had the chicken pasta, yum! I shared this with my son and he wolfed his down, a sure sign that it was good. We didn't' have a dessert in the end because we were so full up but the menu was varied but not too many options and priced around £6-£10 per main depending. In the morning we had the breakfast which was included in our rate. There was a choice of cereals, fruit and yoghurt then you chose either a continental or full English breakfast. Although my son was technically free we still got a breakfast for him and ordered both menus to share between us. Again the food was lovely, the sausages in particular, yum yum!!! The icing on the cake here was that they booked us tickets for Chester Zoo at a reduced rate, about 15% off I think. I can't fault the service, the friendliness of the staff and the facilities. In fact its making me want to go back right now remembering that yummy breakfast. If you're looking for that little bit of luxury but somewhere that are happy to have your kids there then this is definitely the place. Just a quick note; This hotel is about a 10 minute walk into the town straight down the main road pretty much and about a 10 minute drive to Chester zoo so the location couldn't be more perfect.
