Dandy looking but just fine for food

Ideally placed just a stone’s throw away from Pavilion Gardens and opposite the Opera House, we’ve often walked past this venue and wondered how good it was. Well today we found out that The Old Club House is as marvellous on the eye as it is on the outside. They do welcome children despite it feeling on first arrival that this is a ‘Man’s Pub’ with big screens showing football and a number of locals propping up the bar. We choose to sit in the room away from the bar, which we discovered had a number of other families. The food menu is basic and so is the food, yet the portions are good and it’s a case of ‘you pay for what you get’ here. Choice for children is limited to three meals. We opted to get one adult portion of fish and chips and half it between our two children. The waitress who brought our food was fine with this arrangement, quickly returning with an additional empty plate and tea spoons for little hands. The place is clean and tidy and staff friendly although due to its limited children’s menu we won’t be returning in a hurry but don’t let that put you off, especially if you like beautiful buildings. Basically The Old Club House is OK for refreshments and a bite to eat just don’t take come here for a special occasion meal as you’d be disappointed.
