The Griffin overview

The Griffin is a popular family pub in the picturesque village of Godshill. Spacious inside and with a large garden at the back, this is a great place to feed the family. Apart from good food and service, The Griffin is full of family attractions. There is a large beer garden with an adventure playground, a mini football pitch, basketball hoop and a Wendy House. The real winner for the kids is ... the hedge Maze shaped like a Griffin! The welcome is friendly and the food is home cooked, with a good selection of pub grub favourites and daily specials. Bar menu has of sandwiches, baguettes and salads. A childrens menu is available as well as vegetarian options. The Griffin has baby changing facilities.

Excellent food in very friendly and welcoming surroundings - We have been coming to the Griffin for years and have found it a consistently good place to eat. This year has seen a change in ownership which had led to an even friendlier welcome, with the food and service maintaining an impeccable standard. The children have grown-up now but over the years we have hours in the maze or playing football on the mini pitch

We visited 3 times last week and received excellent service. There is a good childrens menu with pasta and vegetable choices. We sat in the gardens and loved the maze. My little one was happy in the play area sitting in the train. The meals were freshly made and were large servings so had no problem with paying under a tenner per adult. Good tasty pub food.

We visited this supposedly family pub in May 2011 and I was extremely disappointed with the service we received from the landlord. He was extremely rude to us when I asked for a high chair and when we did eventually get a high chair we had wait over an hour for our food to arrive. There was no apology and the food was extremely poor despite being rather expensive. I would urge visitors to the beautiful village of Godshill to avoid this poor pub.

Not impressed

Gave this a try today (6/6/2011) and not impressed. Very bland menu, somewhat pricey too. Chilli& Rice £10 Ham, egg chips £9.50. Nothing much of interest on the menu. If new owners are to make a go of this them menu needs re-writing and need to be a bit better priced for what was very basic food. As it stands wouldn't go again. We drove into Rookley and went to the Lakeside bar and restaurant on the holiday park site (open to all - we were not staying here) Great food and reasonable prices. Large kids play area, small crazy golf for kids. Great all rounder in my opinion. Also try spyglass at Ventnor sea front.

Greetings Steve and Ceri (New landlord) I congratulate you on what changes have been made. Myself and my Husband was hesitant to enter at first as our last visit was not very good it was dull and the carvary was not for us. Since the new Landlord have taken over the carvary is fantasicly fresh and well presented. I would recommend anyone looking for a good food and a well presented carvary. Pleasent surroundings, friendly staff, good family pub. Well done The Griffin in Godshill is the place to go.
