Lovely place, and trying to be family friendly

I visited recently for the first time in years as every time I’d passed I thought it was closed! But it’s very much open, serving food and families (and dogs) are very welcome as it tells me on the signs outside. I only stopped for a bowl of chips on a walk down the canal with my 17 month old but from what I saw coming out of the kitchen it is home cooked pub grub, it looked and smelt lovely! And the prices are reasonable if a little higher than the average chain pub. It has been refurbished in recent years as after severe flooding down at Trent Lock years ago it looked to be in disrepair for a long time. When I was younger there was a play area and small petting farm here and was always packed on summer evenings. None of that is here anymore but they are trying to make it more family orientated now by hosting events such as fetes, boating events etc. And the views from the terrace of the lock and the meeting of the 2 rivers here are lovely. They have a baby change in the disabled toilets but oddly they don’t have highchairs? I have asked for them though and they’ve said it’s something they are planning on getting soon… So not my top choice for small children but its well worth a visit if you’re looking for peaceful scenery and home-cooked food.
