Ma Garritas Bar overview

Ma Garritas Bar is a Caribbean themed bar located on the lobby floor of the Alton Tower's Resort's Splash Landings Hotel. The licensed bar sells beers, spritis, cocktails, tea and coffee as well ... as soft drinks until late for residents of the hote. Bar snacks such as crisps, nuts and ice-creams for the children are also available to buy. Evening entertainment at the Splash Landings Hotel is usually performed within the Ma Garritas Bar from approximately 7pm onwards. This includes live performers, magic shows, character meet and greets and family discos. During the day there are sometimes organised activities for children held within the area, as well as a LEGO play area which contains vibrantly coloured neon bricks to match the Cariba Creek theme.

Bar which is trying not to be a Butlins boozer... but is.

The entertainment during our stay at Splash Landings Hotel was in the Ma Garritas Bar which is within the lobby area of the hotel. There seems ample space and with a nice LEGO play area, on arrival, it looked promising. As the crowds came in the bar filled up and after my son and I had had a swim at Cariba Creek the pub was BRIMMING with people drinking beer and letting their kids run wild. I had booked our meal at a restaurant for 5.30pm so that we could get back and watch the evening entertainment at 7.30pm. When we made it at 7.15pm there was absolutely nowhere to sit. My son was looking forward to a night of pirate delights and the whole thing was a disaster. After a good half an hour of sitting on the floor with him and getting cramp, unable to get a drink for either of us and kids running about, peeing on the floor and parents drinking and not watching what they are doing, I called it a night. The following day I bought a J20 from the bar which was ridiculously priced, while my son played in the LEGO area. Just rubbish. Really poor, overpriced and full of parents who let their kids run riot. I'm not a snobby parent, at all, I love mucking in and I often let my son run wild in a soft-play area... but I keep and eye on him. It was really stressful and really disappointing.
