Possibly inspired by our recent visit to the RAF Museum in Hendon, London, the family and I decided we’d like to discover more about our nation’s aviation. Now with the arrival of spring and some sunshine I thought the best way to get up close to the planes, pilots and all manner of aircraft was a day out at an air show where all the family could enjoy themselves.
For this summer there is a formation of air shows and aviation spectacles from England’s Northwest to the South Coast that will suit all budgets and aircraft enthusiasts as well as those with their feet firmly on the ground. All of the air shows we found have family entertainment on the ground including children’s funfairs, aircraft stimulation rides, bands, stalls and classic military vehicles. Some of the concord of the shows, such as Southport Air Show and RAF Waddington International Air Show will have the Red Arrows flying past.
Others like the Victory Show in Leicestershire are themed whereas Eastbourne’s offering takes place on the beaches and is free! Wales has its own national air show that will take place across the skies of Swansea and on its seafront. An unusual day out this Father’s Day could include a visit to Wickenby Wings and Wheels where there will be some serious aerobatics to take place across the city of Lincoln.
The Air Shows we found start in June and run until early September and lots of them have discounts for booking tickets in advance. Why not get on board by treating the family to a day out at an air show. Check out Childfriendly’s events page for more detailed information and soon you’ll be on your own flight of fancy family fun.
