Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second largest airport and busiest single runway airport in the world. If you’re going to be one of the 34 million passengers that pass through it every year then it’s worth checking out what family facilities they have to offer!
Gatwick Airport have a porter service (which can also be booked in advance) where you can pay £10 (for 5 bags or less) and a porter will assist you from kerbside to check in – fantastic if you’re travelling as a single parent with a few kids or just need a helping hand!
Gatwick have also installed ‘Family Assistance lanes’ for families with buggies to give them a bit of a helping hand through security (available at both arrivals and departures) – just follow the signs for ‘assistance lanes’ after you’ve checked in and look out for the special x-ray castle machine!
Whilst in the departure lounge, take advantage of the kid’s zones where there are play areas and children’s tv showing – these are free to use and are located in both the North and South Terminal. You may also want to book one of the paid lounges where there is complimentary food and drink , children’s tv, board games, free wi-fi, video games, and even a cinema room. Prices start at £9.99 per child and can be booked online.
There are plenty of feeding and changing rooms located throughout the airport together with fold down changing tables in most of the male and female toilets. Just follow the bottle and baby signs!
Eating with the family couldn’t be easier – with over 25 restaurants to choose from – try Frankie and Benny’s, Jamie’s Italian or the Red Lion for great children’s menus. If you need a local hotel then check out the Premier Inn which is just a short shuttle bus ride to the Airport and offers amazing value for money.
