Family facilities at Heathrow airport

January 21, 2013 | Filed under: Family holidays

heathrow airportHeathrow Airport is the busiest airport in the UK with over 80 airlines flying to over 190 destinations -and thousands of families passing through it every day.  Needless to say – its very important that family facilities here are up to scratch! Heathrow Airport hosts a range of facilities and its worth finding out what is here before you fly – especially if your flight is delayed or you arrive early at the airport.

Try the Heathrow Airport lounge at terminal 3  if you want to escape from the main departure lounge – you must pre-book online (it costs £30 per adult and £15 per child aged 2 – 11) but you can stay in the lounge for 3 hours with complimentary food and drink, family areas, free wi-fi, sleep areas, quiet areas, children’s TV, magazines, showers, cinema and games room and you can even book a family bedroom if you wish.

In terminals 4 and 5 are free stay and play areas for soft play fun for children aged under 9 years – during holiday seasons there are often extra activities taking place in these areas – storytelling, entertainments and arts and crafts.

There are plenty of feeding and baby changing areas at Heathrow – located in all terminals and before and after security control.  If you run out of supplies – there is a Boots pharmacy at all terminals selling nappies, wipes, formula and other essentials for your journey.

If you’re hungry there are plenty of family friendly restaurants fully equipped with highchairs and children’s menus – try Giraffe or Wagamama’s which have plenty on the menu for all the family.  It’s also worth noting that BAA offer free colouring books and crayons for kids if you ask at the information desks.   There’s plenty on offer families – you just have to know where to look!
