Family days out - top tips
1) Check your petrol, oil, water, tyres & screenwash the day before your family day out. It doesn’t take long & could prevent a frustrating day!
2) Break your journey, especially if your journey is longer than 2 hours. If largely driving on the motorway, visit www.5minutesaway.co.uk for a list of services on or around the motorway network.
3) Pack in car entertainment for the kids such as i-spy games, story tapes/CDs. Entertainment that doesn’t involve concentrated reading or colouring is best as this avoids car sickness.
4) If the journey is long, pack a lunch or picnic for all the family as roadside service food is expensive and often unhealthy.
5) Consider the opening time of the attraction that you are about to visit to maximize your family day out.
6) Plan your route in advance & check the radio the morning of your day trip for any road works or accidents that may affect your journey.
7) If travelling by train, check for delays the morning of your journey.
8) Ensure you have packed adequate clothing for your day. Consider the British weather!
9) Pack spare plastic bags for rubbish and muddy boots/shoes and wet clothing.
10) Look out for discounts and vouchers in papers and magazines.
